Some time around 2005 we had a snow day. Now ultimately what this means is there is a tiny bit of snow on the ground, so we go day drinking somewhere close to home. This day there were about 12 of us. We went to the local bar and were having a great time. I saw my across the street neighbor there doing the same thing we were. At one point some VERY drunk guy walked over to the table and threw a key at us and started yelling about some girl being a slut and breaking his heart. He was politely asked to leave moments later. Nothing was ever thought of again…. until 2 days later when I came home from work and there were a dozen roses on my front porch. The card read “to the most beautiful girl in the bar who took the key and stole my heart”. It was handwritten. And there was no florist information. So these flowers had been HAND DELIVERED by this person. The drunk key man. He didn’t even throw the key at me! I was sitting at the opposite end of the table. He had included his business card. I took a pic of it and sent it to everyone I knew trying to figure this out. A few days later we were back at that bar and my neighbor saw me and waved me over. We chatted for a second and then he asked me how I liked the roses. I was dumbfounded. He knew they key guy and when he said something about an attractive girl that day my neighbor TOLD HIM WHERE I LIVED. I was LIVID and I let my neighbor know this. He thought it was ok because he knew him, he was a friend of his sons, it was very much NOT ok. All my friends thought this was HILARIOUS. They were getting ready to write the Lifetime movie that would come about from it. Guy sees girl in bar. Guy is smitten. Guy delivers roses trying to be romantic. Girl rejects guy. Guy murders her…….Did I mention that my friends are assholes?? Anyway, come to find out that Mary knew who he was. She tried to convince me that he was a good guy, and I should call him. I did not. Years later we ran into him at a bar. Mary pointed it out to both of us. He was a nice guy and not bad looking but still no. He asked me why and I told him it was creepy. He thought he was being so romantic. And maybe if it was 50 years ago, that might be the case. I told him next time he needed to wait until the girl tells him where she lives before sending flowers. He promised he would. About 6 moths later I got another bouquet of “surprise flowers” on my porch. No card this time. I choose to believe that this was him “apologizing”. And I will accept no other explanation!!!!!!!!
These roses did NOT smell as sweet….I don’t care what the name is
